I want this blog to be just about the writing and discussion. I feel like the default wordpress theme is really familiar and unassuming and visitors won't have any confusion finding the comments links.

Of course, since I really only have about one reader, it's probably not worth the thought or effort.

I don't know how to generate discussion. I want my own Inklings who goes to the pub every week to talk about stories and ideas. :(

My hope is that at the very least technology will connect us well enough that this isn't a matter of me sitting in a dark hole in my house, but rather the positive aspects of participation and engagement are taken everywhere.

Then these methods of discussion, debate, and sharing are just one more tool in our arsenal of language, writing, speaking, living.

But so long as the computer is a confining machine, then I start to feel my involvement in these places is an unhealthy addiction.

So, hopefully this can be turned more outward, more genuinely social, more in community with those near me. Eh?

Am I naive? Heh heh.

I agree! I'm so addicted to blogs and internet forums. Sometimes I get a queasy feeling before i enter a discussion, I think, "I don't really want to go here..." but I end up doing so anyway because I can't help it!

I picked up Mystery and Manners at the library yesterday, and cleaned out one branch's stock of Kierkegaard. :)

I have the feeling that I probably agree with O'Connor's 'philosophy of art', and I think that part of the barrier between me and O'Connor is that of style; I don't really like American lit or American voices much (with the notable exception of Marilynne Robinson [no relation, drat it]).

At least now I have learned more about O'Connor's work, and perhaps shall someday give her another try. Thanks! :)
